How to change subject in class 12th CBSE Board

After passing class 10th many students face difficulty in choosing subjects for their further studies. In India this uncomfortable situation is faced by many students. Many a times students take a particular subject which they do not want to take for some reason. Mostly those reasons are - peer pressure, pressure from parents/guardians etc. But after taking that unwanted subject, when they start studying that subject in class 11th and 12th it is very difficult for them to handle those subjects. Frustration, anger, depression surrounds them and those unlucky students find themself  in a very difficult situation. This post tries to help those 'unlucky' students. But before proceeding for the procedure to change the subject (specially in class 12th) here are some important notes regarding the procedure
  1. This procedure is only applicable for the students of CBSE board 
  2. This procedure is about changing subject (ex- from maths to hindi) and not about changing streams (ex- from commerce to science)
Now the procedure,
Let us understand this process thru an example. Suppose someone takes following combination of subjects in Commerce stream in class 11th- Accounts, Economics, Business Studies, Mathematics and certainly English. But after selecting the subject combination, she faces difficulty in handling Mathematics subject. She tries her best to improve her score in Mathematics subject but is unable to do the same. She decides to change her subject from Mathematics to Hindi.

 Changing Mathematics to Hindi before registration (i.e, in class 11th)
CBSE has a system of registration for 12th boards. That registration is usually done in class 11th. Registration process ends tentatively in September/October. It is very easy to change from Mathematics to Hindi before registration. Just write a application to your school Principle requesting him/her to change the subject. Before registration everything is under school control, thus your application will be easily accepted.

 Changing Mathematics to Hindi after registration (i,e, in class 12th)
Teachers/ Principle will usually reply a big NO for change in subject after registration. Please don't fall in the prey of your teachers/ principle's rude and static reply. It is still possible to change your subject. In this situation convince your school principle to write a letter to your CBSE region. That letter by your principle should be accompanied by your request to change the subject.
for example- you will write, To the principle (of your school), subject- change in subject. And your principle will recommend the change in subject in a separate letter addressing head of your respective CBSE region accompanied by your request.

 After posting the letter, just wait for the reply from your CBSE region. Meanwhile continue with your unlucky subject (Mathematics in the above example). When the letter will arrive it will grant permission to change in subject from Mathematics to Hindi. Ensure the effect of change from Mathematics to Hindi in your Board exam admit card.

      Again sorry for late reply, here is your answer- convince ur school principal. It is very important step. Without convincing your principal it becomes very difficult to change your subject computer science. Try again. A letter forwarded by the principal to cbse regional board ensures genuity of the application, otherwise any random student can walk in the office of the CBSE and ask them to change their respective subject. Keep yourself in the position of CBSE and then think. Thus convince your principal. Ask her/him that just write a letter and forward it to the Regional board and forget about it.       Hey sry for late reply.
      They will definitely change your subject if u are not able to cop up with Mathematics. But i dont know how they will interpret anxiety disorder. They may also argue how anxiety disorder and Mathematics are related to each other. If u hav any medical problem, then it may affect your whole studies and not only mathematics. I hope I hav understood ur question. comment again if not satisfied.

      Yes it is still possible. Convince your school Principal to write a letter on your behalf to the head of your regional CBSE office. Dont worry you still have time, it all depends on your convincing skills.

      First of all do not worry or take any tension. Ask your school principal to change your subject. But usually they give a depressing reply like this- "ab kuch nahi ho sakta" or like this- "ab to registration ho gaya h". If they say about registration then ask him/her to ask CBSE on your behalf to make ammendment in your registration. Always remember that once this matter reaches CBSE regional office, they always give their decision for the welfare of the student. Your main aim should be to reach CBSE regional office thru your principal.

      Yes u have to give mathematics exam of class 11th in order to study mathematics in class 12th. The reason behind this logic is this- CBSE says that a student, can pursue a subject in class 12th only when he/she has passed that subject in class 11th. But remember that, your class 11th mathematics exam depends on the approval by CBSE to pursue maths in class 12th

      Ans 1) Though you have convinced your principal, but that automatically does not translates into gurantee. Now its on your principal that how she translates your request to CBSE. But do not worry, when a letter written by a principal reaches CBSE, most probably your request will be accepted.

      ANSWER 2)If Cbse is convinced, then they will change your subject WELL BEFORE ISSUE OF ADMIT CARD.

      No. Letter from the principal is official request to change the subject otherwise any random student can approach to CBSE requesting them to change their subject. In short, a proper request thru principal ensures genuinity of the request.

      Chances of saying 'no' is very less if you have approached CBSE properly. Regarding your concern about learning your new subject- I will be little biased here. Naveen you must know that Hindi is a 'manageable' type of subject vis a vis Mathematics. (Assuming that you hail from HINDI BELT of our country). Thus in this condition if you are asked what will be the best move to avoid any negative reply from CBSE, you yourself know that continuing with Maths will be a suitable option. But do not count on my words blindly. Close your eyes for a moment. Think for the possible reply reactions. If CBSE says yes then it would be diwali for you, if they reply no, then you will have no option other than studying mathematics. And in that condition ur current bonding with mathematics will help u in getting a decent result. Practice for the worst, Hope for the best. Still have any doubts? Reply again.       Yash if u are in 11th class and if your registration has not yet being done, the in this case changing the stream is still possible. But I am afraid, it is extremely difficult to change ur stram once registration is done. This blog post mostly deals with changing the 5th optional subject. But do not get discouraged, since I do not no the procedure, thats why I am saying that it is difficult. You can file an RTI to the regional CBSE office asking them weather it is possible to change the stream. you can file RTI here- https://rtionline.gov.in/ it is easy, cheap, and most importantly-reliable.       Yes it can be changed. Registration is usually done in 11th class for next year board exams. It is a common tool for teachers/principals thru which they say- " registration to ho gaya h, ab subject change nahi ho sakta ".(Registration is already done, now u cannot change ur subject). Just convince ur school principal to write a letter on your behalf to the regional CBSE office, it works most of the time. Just be bold enough. Even if they say no then ur attitude should be like this-" sir\mam please letter likh dijiye, aapka personally kuch jayega nahi"( Sir\mam pls write this letter, it will not cost u anything). Your main aim should be to reach regional CBSE office. Feel always free to return with any query in the comment section.

    1) Reply is usually in mid jan or before
    2) It is assumed that the changed subject is your choice and u will score decent in that paper. Imagine the situation, if ur subject is not changed, then scoring in that subject will be very hectic vs scoring in your changed subject within 2 months. Kuch nahi honey achha hai ki kuch to hai. I hope u understand my point.

    The thing is they said that they once send a letterfor changing the optional subject of a student but, CBSE then replied said that they cannot send this type of letter to us in this regards etc by the way I am in class 12.I have tried to convince my principal about changing the subject allot and my parents did to what should I do,I am desperate to change my subject I have opted C and want to change to PE.

    I have gone through your blogs regarding change of subject in classXII in CBSE. My son is interested in changing his subject from Maths to IP. He has just appeared for his class XI exam. We have visited the school authorities with a number of requests but they are not ready to listen on the pretext that registration has been completed.

    As now iam not able to cope up with Maths in class 12 so I want a Subj change from Maths to PE.
    I wrote an application to the Principal of my School but they said that it is not possible as CBSE made a new rule that we cant change subj.
    But I am sure that there is no such rule its just that principal is not allowing for changing subj.

    My school is asking for money to change the additional subject in class 12 I have applied the application in April
    But till now they say that pay RS.1400 to change the subject they refuse to give me the receipt and I think that they are giving me fake reason

    Sir I'm in class 11 with PCM(maths stream) with optional hindi in SCHOOL A(say).
    And I'm going to class 12 in two months .
    I want to change my optional subject from Hindi to Biology ,i.e., i want to go for PCMB .
    But my school doesn't give bio as an optional subject with Maths stream .
    I want to change my school and go into another SCHOOL B ( say) where there is an option for PCMB( that is biology as an optional subject with Maths).
    Please sir tell me whether and how can I change my school as well as my optional subject in class 12.
    Both the schools (A and B) are of cbse board.
